# SwingFactor > SwingFactor is a decision analysis platform. It shows which uncertainties could change your choice, and what to find out before you make it. SwingFactor is a decision analysis platform that runs in the browser, published by AKdev. It is for organisations facing a contested choice between options — an acquisition, a strategy, a public policy question — who need to see what the choice depends on rather than be told what to choose. ## What SwingFactor does A person puts a question to SwingFactor: the decision and why it is being asked, the options, the scenarios that could play out, the factors every option is compared on, and their sources. SwingFactor drafts a model — the claims whose truth would change which option is preferred, evidence for and against each with its source and where in the source it is, what each claim rests on, each option's answer on each factor, and the uncertain numbers with each party's range and the thresholds at which a consequence changes — and then audits its own draft as a sceptic would. Everything drafted arrives proposed; a person accepts, rejects or corrects each item. From what has been accepted, SwingFactor computes what could change the choice, and sorts what is still open into three kinds: find this out, build or test this capability, and this one is yours to decide. Anyone who can read a question can challenge any part of it; editors resolve each challenge with a response. Every change is kept with who made it and why, the model can be frozen as a named snapshot, and a decision is recorded against the snapshot it was taken on. ## How SwingFactor differs - **From asking a chatbot:** SwingFactor produces an inspectable model, not a verdict. Each claim is separate, each piece of evidence names its source and where in the source it came from, and nothing SwingFactor drafts counts until a person accepts it. What could change the choice is computed from accepted items, not generated: the same accepted model gives the same result every time. - **From a weighted scoring matrix:** SwingFactor never merges its judgements into one score. Claim type, standing and evidence strength are kept apart, each party's range for an uncertain number is kept apart rather than averaged, and the threshold at which a consequence changes is marked. - **From decision tree software:** traditional decision analysis puts a probability and a value on every branch and computes an expected value for each option. SwingFactor does not: it compares every option on the same factors and shows what could change the choice. - **What it deliberately does not do:** it does not score, weigh or rank the options, it names no winner, and it does not rank open matters unless the user names a constraint (time, money, people, access or a deadline) — even then the order is the user's. ## Features - **Claims, not paragraphs** (The question, taken apart): A decision is broken into the claims it rests on: statements whose truth would change which option you prefer. Each is judged on its own terms — what kind of claim it is, how well it stands up, how strong its evidence is — and those judgements are never merged into one score. - **Evidence you can trace** (Where every claim comes from): Evidence supports, contradicts or qualifies a claim, and carries its source, the place in the source, who asserted it and any interest they declared. Evidence recorded as sharing an origin counts once, however many times it is repeated, and anyone who can read the question can challenge an origin that was missed. - **What could change the choice** (The numbers it turns on): Every option is compared on the same factors, and each claim shows what it rests on. Where people disagree about an uncertain number, each party’s range is kept apart rather than averaged, and the threshold — the value at which a consequence changes — is marked. This part is computed, not generated: the same accepted model gives the same result every time. - **A draft to argue with** (SwingFactor proposes; you accept): SwingFactor drafts the options, the claims, the evidence from your own sources and from research, each option’s answer on each factor, and the uncertain numbers with their ranges and thresholds, then audits its own work as a sceptic would. Everything arrives proposed. - **Challenge anything** (Objections, answered on the record): Anyone who can read a question can object to any part of it. An editor resolves each challenge with a response, and records whether it was right — including the ones that were right but not adopted. - **A record of what you believed** (Decisions you can look back on): Every change is kept with who made it, when and why. Freeze the model under a name, compare two snapshots item by item, and record the decision against the snapshot it was made on — so what you knew at the time is read from the record, not remembered. ## Pricing Paid plans are sold to businesses. SwingFactor is a decision analysis platform that runs in your browser. You put a decision to it — the question, the options you are choosing between and your sources — and it builds a model of the claims the choice rests on, the evidence for and against each, and what each claim rests on. It then shows what could change the choice, and what is still open: things to find out, things to build or test, and things that are yours to decide. ### How much does SwingFactor cost? SwingFactor has three plans. Observer is free and lets one person read and challenge questions other people have published. Investigator is £25 a month (£250 a year) and asks one question a month. Institute is £100 a month (£1,000 a year) and asks 5 questions a month, with extra questions a month at £20 each. Both paid plans have room for as many people as you like, can keep questions private, and come with a seven-day free trial, one per person every 12 months. Paid plans are for businesses. ### How is SwingFactor different from asking a chatbot? A chatbot gives you its answer; SwingFactor gives you a model you can inspect and argue with. Every claim is a separate item with its own evidence, each piece of evidence names its source and where in the source it came from, and everything SwingFactor drafts stays proposed until a person accepts it. What could change the choice is then computed from what you accepted, not generated: the same accepted model gives the same result every time, and can be explained step by step. ### How is SwingFactor different from decision tree software? Decision tree software, and decision analysis in its traditional sense, puts a probability and a value on every branch and works out which option has the highest expected value. SwingFactor deliberately does not. It never scores, weighs or ranks the options and names no winner. It compares every option on the same factors, keeps each party’s range for an uncertain number apart, and marks the thresholds at which a consequence changes — so you can see what could change the choice, and the choice stays yours. ### How is SwingFactor different from a weighted scoring spreadsheet? A weighted scoring matrix collapses everything into one number per option, which hides where the disagreement is. SwingFactor keeps its judgements separate — what kind of claim something is, how well it stands up, how strong its evidence is — keeps each party’s range for an uncertain number apart rather than averaging them, and marks the threshold at which a consequence changes. ### Does SwingFactor make the decision for me? No. SwingFactor drafts, and a person accepts or rejects every part of the draft. It never scores or ranks the options, and it does not rank what is left open unless you tell it what you are constrained by — time, money, people, access or a deadline — and even then the order is yours to set. The decision itself is recorded against the name of the person who took it. ### Who can see my questions? On Investigator and Institute, a question is private to your workspace unless you publish it. A published question can be read, and challenged, by anyone signed in to SwingFactor; only editors in your workspace can change it. There are no anonymous public pages. ### What data does SwingFactor store? SwingFactor stores the questions you ask and everything modelled under them — options, claims, evidence, challenges and their history — along with the files and links in your workspace’s source library. Your workspace is stored in London. When SwingFactor drafts, it sends that question and its sources to an AI provider — Anthropic, AWS or Microsoft — outside the UK, to read. That content leaves AKdev; SwingFactor sends nothing else. Product analytics record counts and timings, never what anyone wrote. ### Can I get my data out of SwingFactor? Yes. Every plan, including the free one, can download a workspace as a single JSON file containing every question’s full record and its snapshots. ### Can I use SwingFactor with Claude or ChatGPT? Yes, on a paid plan: Investigator and Institute. SwingFactor has an MCP server at https://mcp.swingfactor.ai/mcp. Add it as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant that speaks the Model Context Protocol, sign in with your SwingFactor account, and your assistant can work with SwingFactor as you — with your access and within your plan. What it can do is listed at https://swingfactor.ai/mcp. ### Can I try SwingFactor for free? Yes, two ways. Observer is free and not time-limited: it reads and challenges questions other people have published. To ask your own, Investigator and Institute each come with a seven-day free trial, one per person every 12 months. ### What counts as a question? A question is a decision you put to SwingFactor to be modelled. Investigator includes one question a month and Institute 5 questions; reading and challenging published questions never uses the allowance. Deleting a question does not give that month’s question back. ### How many people can use a workspace? As many as you like on Investigator and Institute — the plans are priced by questions, not seats. People join as an owner, an editor or a viewer. One subscription covers one workspace. ### Can I add questions without moving to a bigger plan? On Institute, yes: each extra question a month is £20 a month or £200 a year, and is added to your allowance every month for as long as you keep it. Investigator does not sell extra questions; moving to Institute is the way to ask more. ### Can I change plans later? Yes, from billing settings in the app. Moving to a smaller plan takes nothing away: everything you have already modelled stays where it is. ### How does billing work? Plans are sold to businesses, billed monthly or annually in pounds sterling, through Stripe. An annual plan costs ten months’ worth. ## Publisher SwingFactor is published by AKdev Ltd, a small independent software studio registered in Scotland, Companies House number SC892925.
